Atlanta’s I-285 Ranked As Deadliest Interstate In The Country

A recently released analysis of 2013 accident statistics ranked Atlanta’s I-285 as the deadliest interstate in the country. I-285, frequently referred to as the “Perimeter” by Atlanta residents, consists of nearly 64 miles of highway that pass through Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, and Clayton counties. Nearly 2 million people use this roadway each day! Given the large volume of traffic, it is not surprising that I-285 is a frequent source of car accidents. In 2013, there were 26 fatal accidents on I-285 resulting in 29 deaths. Based on those numbers, I-285 had more fatal accidents per mile than any other interstate in the United States.
